The MNIST Dataset

When starting your journey in Computer Vision and Machine Learning, you will inevitably encounter MNIST. It is widely considered the "Hello World" of Machine Learning.

Dataset Characteristics

Contains 70,000 images of handwritten digits (0-9).
Each image is in grayscale.
Every image is uniformly sized at exactly 28x28 pixels.

The Task

Classification

Given a single 28x28 pixel image, the goal of the ML model is to predict the correct number (0 through 9). Assigning an input to a discrete category is known as Classification.
